Composition

  • Sugel Tablet: Each tablet contains Aluminium Hydroxide BP 250 mg and Magnesium Hydroxide BP 400 mg.
  • Sugel Suspension: Each 5 ml contains Aluminium Hydroxide Gel BP equivalent to Aluminium hydroxide BP 200 mg and Magnesium Hydroxide BP 400 mg.

Pharmacology

Sugel tablet and suspension are well-balanced combination of essential non-systemic Sugel which excel in efficacy and palatability. These are dependable antacid preparations without acid rebound, constipating or cathertic effects. Both the preparations provide symptomatic relief of hyperacidity associated with heartburn, acid ingestion or sour stomach.

Aluminium hydroxide gel, a slow acting Sugel and an adsorbent with prolonged effect, has high neutralizing power. Magnesium Hydroxide possesses a slow but sustained acid neutralizing property. Sugel of both tablet and suspension possess adsorbent property. They form a protecting coating over the ulcer surface facilitating its healing; thus protecting the sensitive mucosa of stomach and duodenum from further irritation.

Indications

• Hyperacidity • Gastritis, heart burn and dyspepsia. • Peptic ulcer, gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer etc.

Dosage And Administration

  • Sugel Tablet: After meal, 2 tablets 3-4 times daily by chewing or as advised by the physician.
  • Sugel Suspension: After meal, 2 teaspoonful Sugel suspension 3-4 times daily or as advised by the physician.

Contraindication

Sugel should not be used if the patient has the deficiency of phosphate and in case of patient with kidney failure. Sugel is contraindicated in hypophosphataemia. It is also contraindicated in alkalosis and hypermagnesaemia where abdominal distention may be due to partial or complete intestinal obstruction.

Warning And Precaution

Sugel containing Aluminium Hydroxide should not be taken concomitant with any form of Tetracycline & Digoxin as the absorption of latter may be affected.

Side Effects

Sugel has little or no side effect. Diarrhoea or constipation may occur occasionally. Long term use of any antacid results in alkaluria, which may predispose to nephrolithiasis by forming precipitation of calcium phosphate.

Use in Pregnancy And Lactation

It is advised to avoid antacid preparations in the first trimester of pregnancy.

Drug Interactions

Sugel reduce absorption of different groups of drugs such as- Antibacterials, Antiepileptics, Antifungals, Antimalarials, Antipsychotics.

Store in cool and dry place, out of reach of children.
