Moxifloxacin

Composition

Moxifloxacin Sterile Eye Drops: Each mL drops contains Moxifloxacin Hydrochloride USP equivalent to Moxifloxacin 5 mg. 

Preservative: Product is self preserved 

Pharmacology

Moxifloxacin active in vitro against a broad spectrum of Gram-positive and Gram-negative ocular pathogens, atypical microorganisms and anaerobes. It works against topoisomerase II and topoisomerase IV. 

Indications

Bacterial conjunctivitis, Blepharitis, Dacryocystitis, Hordeolum (Stye), Tarsadenitis, Keratitis as well as preoperative & postoperative prophylaxis. 

Dosage & Administration 

Moxifloxacin Eye Drops: One drop in the affected eyes, 3 times a day for 7 days or as advised by the registered physician. 

  • Wash hands before using the eye drops
  • Pull down your eyelid with a clean finger
  • Bring the dropper tip close to the eye
  • Gently press the bottom of the dropper to release of medicine
  • Gently close your
  • eyes 2-3 minutes after administration 

Contraindications

Moxifloxacin Eye Drops is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to Moxifloxacin, to other quinolones or to any of the components in this medication

Side Effects 

After ocular use the following adverse effect has been reported: Burning or discomfort, keratopathy, corneal staining, corneal precipitates or infiltrates and photophobia. 

Warnings & Precautions 

As with other anti-infectives, prolonged use may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms, including fungi. 

  • Do not pierce with needles 
  • Do not cut with scissor or knife
  • Do not touch the nozzle/dropper tip
  • Close the upper part of the cap with the container just after the use
  • After 30 days using please keep the container in bin 

Special Guideline 

  • If more than one topical ophthalmic product is to be used, other eye drops should be instilled at least 5 to 10 minutes apart.
  • If using two types of eye medications such as solution and suspension, use the solution first and then use suspension.
  • If using eye drops and an eye ointment, use the eye drops first then apply the ointment at least 10 minutes later.
  • Don't share eye drops with another persons because sharing drops could spread germs and infection. 

Use in Pregnancy & Lactation 

Pregnancy: Moxifloxacin Eye Drops should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus as there are no adequate and well-documented studies in pregnant women. 

Lactation: Moxifloxacin has not been measured in human milk, although it can be presumed to be excreted in human milk. Caution should be exercised when Moxifloxacin Eye Drops are administered to a lactating mother. 

Use in Children & Adolescents 

Moxifloxacin Eye Drops: Safe and well tolerated in pediatric patients, including all age categories: newborns (0-27 days), infants and toddlers (28 days-23 months), children (2-11 years) and adolescents (12-17 years). 

Drug Interactions 

Drug-drug interaction studies have not been conducted with Moxifloxacin Eye Drops
